Spoof 2007

( Mouse here for a quick explanation of SpoofEvery year, the Penn Med student body puts on Spoof, a show of songs and skits parodying our experiences. No aspect is safe from mockery, from the administration to fellow students to the socialization process of medicine that all must undergo to function in the culture of the healthcare world. )

Some clips from the show:

"If You Could Just Fill Out This Card"

Spoof is the annual med school variety show of skits and songs that parody various aspects of med school life: the classes, clinical rotations, the quirky physicians and faculty we meet, killer exams, lack of sleep. This year, I was in a few dances. Lazy Back (to the right and below), a spoof of Justin Timberlake's SexyBack, celebrated a medical student's hard-won reprieve in the spring of his 4th year (think senioritis - minimal responsibilities, closing in on a major milestone, looking back on all the crap you went through to get there). Don't Cha, based on the Pussycat Dolls's song, was about a successful and wealthy MBA (played by Kristen) who mocks an overworked and underpaid medical resident at their college reunion. I also played the Little Mermaid (re-christened Areola for Spoof) in Part of Your Ward, a song about a 1st-year medical student's yearning to be with the 3rd-years on rotation in the hospital wards.

Beau Monde

Amazing crepes - perhaps my new fave restaurant :) My dear childhood friend came with her boyfriend to visit. Unfortunately, the weather sucked, and this was perhaps the high point of her weekend.

Mad 4 Mex

Famous for its Big Azz Margaritas, Mad 4 Mex is a popular hangout right on Penn Campus. The Big Azz margarita, a 22-oz concoction, was actually what did me in the very first time I got truly drunk - during the beginning of med school at the tender age of 23 and 5/6. Now, with all our classmates on different rotations and demanding schedules, we have to make a conscious effort to get together, have fun, and escape med school woes!

Loie

photophoto

I had promised to go dancing with Allison ages ago, and our schedules finally cooperated! We met up with Brian and James at Loie. Apparently a lot of medical residents like to go there - Allison heard rumors to this effect, and an anesthesiologist definitely tried to pick me up. I explained that my man was out of town, but he gave me his number anyway...so perhaps the next time we go out, I can play matchmaker and set him up with one of my friends (hehehhe). I totally sent a dude Allison's way, discreetly but quite bluntly as I am apt to do. I don't mess around ;) This snapshot in the top left is definitely my fave =)
