Winter Ball and more |
This is my faerie dress. I may never fit into it again. Either that, or by the time I'm able to fill out the bust, I won't be able to zip the middle.
L to R: Wei (HOT), Stas (hot too, i guess), Liang (coming soon to a courtroom near you), Heather (bewitching all males in her sparkling black-eyed gaze; currently working the tango circuit), Anh and Ingrid (demonstrating the Asian A-cup principle), Charlie (sampling the surplus of oxygen at the higher altitude), Tasha (lovely as always, here in a self-tailored dress!), and Ivan (thanking the gods of love for his place by tasha's side) |
| Good food and good friends! L to R: Catherine, Heather, (Na)Tasha. Catherine came to visit, so we went for sushi at Hama's. We ourselves are fairly entertaining, but the real kicker was the women's bathroom. Y chromosomes, yer missing out. |
Valentine's Day: potentially incriminating
evidence. | |
back to top^ Spring Break
It was jolly until somebody stole my sweet little car and left me only some shards of broken window glass. I was heartbroken. Curses on that thief! Anyway, here are some of the good times. |
| Ingrid and I went visit her friend Mamta in Montreal. We stayed with her downtown in the thick of restaurants and shopping areas. Here, we are at Old Port ("Vieux Port," say the Quebecois. harumph) which has cobblestone streets and a quaint air about the place. We got maple syrup taffy just before the vendor was about to close shop. Good stuff. We also stopped for poutine on the way home. Apparently this potato-cheese artery plaque of a dish is unique to Montreal (or maybe Quebec?). Rest assured I ate my 1/3 of the plate. |
A sweaty closeup on our way home from Unity, a gay club in the Village. Mamta asserts that we had discovered where all the good-looking guys go. Definitely a good time: they played great music mixes, and you can go all out dancing diva-style without fear of slimey males macking on ya (er, if you're a girl). |
|
| We went to Ottawa for an afternoon. Unfortunately, the weather became snowy, so we didn't play tourist much. We did check out this Indian restaurant, really intending to check out its manager...crazy story involving a potential suitor. I learned a bit about close-knit Indian societies and the network they maintain. L to R: Mamta, Aditi, me, Ingrid, Kat. |
The restaurant had a lot of elaborate decor, including this floor piece. It's a "jinrikisha," or "rickshaw" (I just looked it up - etymology's a curious thing, isn't it?). I was very careful not to touch it but I think I made the restaurant host (who turned out to be our chef) a bit anxious.
| The government buildings in Ottawa are beautiful. I know little about architecture, but they give me an impression of British austerity and aged grace. With all the snow, wind, and dim light, I imagined we were on the moors. I'm not sure what a moor is, actually, but the word sounds like it has that feeling. |
| Montreal has a subterranean mall system, it's great! We're in the back chamber of a liquor store; it's climate-controlled and full of reeeeally expensive old wines and whatnot. I think the store clerk rolled his eyes at us. |
| Ingrid's friend Anny invited us for dinner. We had a cozy comfy time with her family, just talking and eating good wholesome food and heckling her little brother Nathan. L to R: Ingrid, me, Mamta, Anny. I suggested we hold up Mamta, but she objected. |
back to top^ Wei's Birthday |
|
Wei came of legal age to be a drinking slut. Unfortunately, she adhered to neither vice. Ingrid and i got her edible beaver turds and an edible bra. we are all about edibles. |
back to top^ Fun with Benjamin Silliman
April 9th: Jenn and Ingrid decide push my fat ass up onto the statue of Benjamin Silliman in front of SCL--we're geeks who play on the front lawns
of science buildings. |
A garden faery, a girl innocently plucking daffodils, a monkey, and Jenn's foot. |
Ingrid decides to join me. She needs no butt boost
(and I learn to climb up w/o help, too). |
We get creative: Jenn, superior artisan/mom/bonafide hippie, braids a crown of daffodils (furnished by Yale Landscaping in conjunction with Heather Plucking Services) that I, being the taller monkey, assiduously and painstakingly coax onto Ben's head. |
Ben is now festively adorned for the arrival
of spring. |
…and still is 10 days later, despite rain and wind. |
a few more photos from that fateful day: |
Culprits and accomplices: me, Zheni, Heather, Ingrid, Jenn. Zheni joined us after her class. |
More monkeys! |
Silly shot! |

back to top^ Communiversity Day, 17 April |
APO organized Communiversity Day, a children's fair with games, the indispensible bounce house, arts and crafts, science demos, musical activities, and more. Below: A little girl is eager to get started on CommDay fun, heedless of her mother's distracted cell phone conversation. Where's she headed? The bounce house looks fun!

| Give a bunch of kids a stage, add a soundtrack, and what do you get? Kids hamming it up with whatever talents they wanna share with ya. We had singers, dancers, a fashion show...at times it was chaos. For both parents and children, a variety of groups lined the walkways of Old Campus to hand out information on community resources, invite guests to share in their culture, face paint, do arts and crafts, try a musical instrument, gaze at the planetarium, see a magic trick (well, science is magic, come on)... |
We also collaborated with the International Cultural Festival, whose show featured
groups from around the community throughout the day. Here, the Polish dance troupe
(middle school age, i think) Orieta performs their polka-like number. Three key APOers,
Jason (the President), Andrea (the Kanner), and Gautam (one of the VPs), anxiously look
on and pray that the (rather ill-assembled) stage does not collapse under all that
stomping. |

Left: My beautiful friend Lindsey (center) performed with the African dance
troupe Konjo!, who teamed up with some kind of Asian drum group (yes, i'm really that
ignorant) called Unity. Right: Dean Salovey gets into the hula spirit! |

back to top^ Ballroom Dance Team Spring Show, 16-17 April |
We did a salsa bit for the ballroom team's spring
show. Left: most of the boys from the show...you can draw your own conclusions. Davis (far
left) is apparently the most graceful person floating around campus, bar none. For height
reasons, I (klutzy goofball) was assigned to him and was subsequently whipped around like
a yo-yo. Then there's Howard, Jeremy (who is also very graceful and whipped me around for
this show), Yao(?), Kevin, Chris, and Roger, with Pravin in the back working audio. Right:
Jeremy and me, plus Ingrid's sketchy red shirt that I borrowed for costume purposes.

back to top^ Spider Ball, 24 April |
Spider Ball is a classy event hosted by Jonathan Edwards
Residential College. There was a live swing band, a DJ, unlimited quality alcohol,
good food, and--oh yes--chocolate covered strawberries. Right: me, Ingrid, Trang, Wei,
and Tiff, the girls at Ingrid's pre-party. We're so hot our dates aren't worth
mentioning. I didn't notice til about the 5th time I looked at this photo that we're also
all Asian. and I dunno why I look like a frickin Olsen twin. Just call me Mary-Kate I
guess. |
back to top^ Spring Fling, 27 April |
Spring Fling is the annual concert held on Old
Campus. This year's artist was Third Eye Blind. I didn't get any good shots of the band
or the crowd, but the day was beautiful and I couldn't help enjoying the time out there.
Left: Ingrid's cool sneaks and blue laces, and my boots. Right: me pretending to be a
Canadian moose. | |
